Colds Prevention: Should I go for Ascorbic Acid or Sodium Ascorbate?

_FernC---Bad-ColdIf there is anything more valuable to any mom right now, I think it is TIME. We need time to accomplish things in our workplace. We need time to keep our house orderly and the meals yummy. We need time to spend with our kids because sniff, sniff, they grow up too fast. We need time to nurture relationships with other family members, friends and our husbands. And we need time for ourselves.

So when we are down with a cold and can't function well, it's like we are on a stop mode but everything around is moving fast. Even my kids, with the fast paced lessons of today, skipping a day or two in school affect their learning schedule and would need to play catch-up the rest of the week.

Colds is a great downer for my family. We can't get a goodnight's sleep. We are groggy the next day. Our eyes are teary and we have to lug a tissue box all day to sneeze out all the virus. That is why I try my very best to keep myself and my family healthy and colds free and the best way is prevention.

Apart from the usual but super necessary, washing of hands and disinfecting, there is of course boosting our immunity. Most, if not everyone would go grab a dose of Vitamin C, and rightfully so. Vitamin C strengthens and increases our body's resistance to infectious diseases.

Sodium Ascorbate

FERN-C, the only Quali-C Vitamin C from DSM Switzerland, ensures us the world’s premium quality and potent Vitamin C and anti-oxidants to protect us and our family. FERN-C is composed of Sodium Ascorbate and not the more common Ascorbic Acid found in most Vitamin C's.   Like Ascorbic Acid, FERN-C delivers the same Vitamin C content but without the effect of tummy ache because of its special alkaline content. Sodium Ascorbate counter-balances the acidity of ascorbic acid.

Compared to ascorbic acid, sodium ascorbate stays longer within the body          (about 12 to 14 hours) which can be beneficial for its antioxidant value. Moreover, because of ascorbic acid’s acidic nature, more of it is flushed down from the body. Only 25 percent of ascorbic acid is consumed by the blood stream unlike sodium ascorbate which can be absorbed for about 95 percent.          (Reference:

That said, I think Fern-C Sodium Ascorbate must be the healthier choice. Fern-C is available in leading drugstores and supermarkets all over the Philippines.
