Is it ok to let kids Play in the Rain?

kids playing in the rainOne of my many joys as a child is playing in the rain.  My brothers and I will raise our hands up to catch the rain, stick out our tongues to taste it and run around the whole garden splashing in happy, wild abandon.

Of course then parents didn't have the emotional baggage of letting their kids splash happy while the rest of the Metro Manila is submerged in water.

I think rains bring the happiest of smiles to innocent children untouched by adult concerns and worries.  Is it safe?  Will he catch a cold? Nyikes, clean up?!? And for those heavy downpours, is it inappropriate for kids to have so much fun while the rest of the nation is suffering?

So, is it safe?  As long as there is no lightning,  it should be safe.

Will they catch a cold?  A cold is a virus you catch from someone with the cold virus.  The rain doesn't carry it:-)

How do I deal with the clean-up afterwards?  Just make sure you have a basket handy where the kids can dump their wet clothes and have a towel to wrap them up in so they don't get the house all wet.

And the ultimate question,  I myself have no clear answer just yet - Is it inappropriate for kids to have so much fun while the rest of the nation is flooding?   Am I bringing up inhuman and indifferent children as I let them play in the rain?  I'm not really sure:(

What do you think?
